Minecraft Snapshot 12w21a Released

Hey there fans, Atzunew here with another update on everyone's favorite cuboid game - Minecraft Yesterday we discussed some of Mojang's plans in regards to updating their popular game and today is the day. They have released snapshot 12w21a which is packed with great content.  Below is a list of changes from Mojang themselves.
  • Villagers will trade items (they are cheap bastards, though!)
  • Added a “currency item”
  • A few minor terrain changes
  • A new useful block/item (requires obsidian)
  • Added a /seed command for showing the map seed
  • Added sandstone stairs
  • A lot of smaller changes and fixes
There are some really nice new features in this small update. The "End Chests" was the one item that was included from a suggestion on Reddit I presume, and currency will give new meaning to the gameplay in ways only Bukkit plugins could achieve before.

The emerald ore however is discolored, since it is supposed to be green like regular emeralds. Jeb has said via tweet that this is true: "The ore is supposed to be green, not red. Apparently I didn't commit the file". Below are some pictures of these new additions.

Jeb Teases New Block for Minecraft, Coming Thursday

Recently Jeb from Mojang released the following statement which seems to point to an upcoming update of Minecraft. Obviously this message is quite vague so we don't know for certain what this may mean. Right now I would recommend sifting through the 7 month old content and comments on /r/minecraft on Reddit.
He has given us a time to expect this new block so for now we will have to wait until tomorrow. Is it the coin block people are speculating about, wooden items in-line with the newly coloured wood, or something new?  In other Minecraft news, but still related, Mojang has seemed to been fiddling with the stars in the overworld night sky. He said that he changed their properties but will they create constellations? Return to AnythingGeek.net for the latest on this developing story.

Notch Announces Hot New Game: Mars Effect

Earlier today, the creator of Minecraft - Notch - tweeted saying:
The website details the features of Mojang's latest upcoming game - Mars Effect.
After several weeks of trying to come up with a good name for the game, we finally decided not to learn from previous experiences and pick a name that's already kind of in use by a huge existing franchise.
While the game is still early in development, it features many elements not found in currently available games:
  • Hard science fiction.
  • Lots of engineering.
  • A game ending that makes sense.
  • And more!
Fans of possibly similar franchises will be happy to learn that one of the most requested features will be incorporated into this game.
Some Mojang fans are are worried about the legal threats that may come with this announcement, as they did with their other game Scrolls.
We at AnythingGeek look forward to seeing how this upcoming game progresses!

Mojang and Bethesda Settle Over Scrolls

In the summer of 2011 Notch said that Bethesda was suing Mojang for naming their latest upcoming game Scrolls. Bethesda's lawyers contacted Mojang saying that it infringed on the trademark for "The Elder Scrolls". After this incident the legal battle kept going on so Notch challenged them to a game of Quake 3 for the name Scrolls. Bethesda declined. Eventually there was little news about this event until the settlement finally happened.

Earlier yesterday Notch tweeted saying:

Scrolls will be Mojang's second full game after Minecraft, you can sign up to try to get into the alpha on the official website. You can view some gameplay footage below, form a panel at MineCon:
