Recently EVE Online's Developers, Crowd Control Productions (CCP) have commented on a monumental event that has happened in-game. For those that have not heard about it you can skip to the next paragraph and read up on the details. For those that now know, the developers are impressed in a number of ways. Chiefly they discuss how well systems and servers held up during these massed events as well as the effectiveness of features like time dilation. They also were happy to see how far this game has come under their development period, with how the community can do what ever they want within the rules if they put their mind to it.
Now to discuss what this article is referencing when CCP talks about Jita. Jita is a solar system in the game, which has developed into one of the biggest trading hubs in the game. A large in-game group had made plans to attack the games largest trading center, most likely so they will profit in the coming chaos. This campaign gained steam and was titled "Burn Jita". In the picture to the right you can see the heatmap of player deaths during last weekend, the time this event took place. While we at AnythingGeek.net offer our condolences to players who lost a lot of items, this event was quite awesome in its scale and size.
This game is often criticized for being "Excel Online", as it almost takes spreadsheets to keep track of profit margins, price fluctuation and trends. While it is highly economic the game does offer great combat and a sense of community. CCP commented on how well gameplay features like time dilation held up when faced with the high traffic and the amount of calculations that needed to be processed during the weekend. For those of you that have no idea what I mean you can check out this video regarding TD, but at least know that it is supposed to balance out combat.
With this event now over we see numerous videos, commentaries and announcements that showcase all of the great content that was a part of this event. Surely the after effects of this event will be felt for months or years, but has also got many other users interested in the game, something CCP is happy about.
