Skyrim Dawnguard Trailer Released

Today marks the day of the new trailer depicting the upcoming DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  It shows off what we have previously thought the DLC to entail, vampires & crossbows, among other things. This trailer shows off what the overall plot entails as well as some nice new features: Skeletal mounts, swimming dragons, and new vampire forms add up to a DLC that looks good for the amount of content. No word on price or date, but we might learn some more during E3 next week - so stay tuned for all fo our coverage!

New Hitman: Absolution Trailer Released - Attack of the Saints

When the latest teaser images were shown earlier today, it was revealead that the newest trailer for Hitman: Absolution was coming out soon - and it did. The pictures released made it look like Nuns wearing latex and show 8 people lined up darkened out. This could mean that there will be co-op or multiplayer features coming out. On the XBL Market place they uploaded an image for the trailer earlier saying the name of the trailer, but now it is officially out and you can watch it below.

New Photos from the set of Django Unchained

If you are like me and are super excited for Quentin Tarantino's new flick Django Unchained, then you'll be happy to know that new pics from the set have been released, which you can check out below. Now although the pictures don't reveal much in the way of story, its nice to see what the costumes and setting will look like.

For those of you that don't know, Django Unchained is an upcoming film slated to be released around Christmas time, directed by Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorius Basterds, Resevoir Dogs, etc.). The film will be about a freed slave Django (Jamie Fox) who along side a German dentist turned bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), travels to America and tries to free his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from plantain owner Calvin Candie (Leanardo DiCaprio). Samuel L. Jackson will also be in this film, as he has almost every single Quentin Tarantino film, this time portraying Calvin Candie's house slave. Like Kill Bill which takes a lot from old Japanese samurai flicks, Django is sure to borrow quite a bit from classic spaghetti westerns.

Lego Batman 2: Pre-Order Bonuses, More Characters

Brickultra.com has recently found several of the EB Games pre-order deals for the latest game in the Lego Batman franchise. Some of these characters can only be unlocked by pre-ordering. The last picture might be characters that come from other retailers, but no word yet. Just be sure to check with your retailer before you pre-order to see what you'll get. Check out the pictures below:

Ubisoft Goofs Ghost Recon Future Soldier Descriptions

Some news for you gaming fans, today Ubisoft has apologized for their mistake when describing their game, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. In some of the descriptions of the product it said that there was a co-op campaign, this is not true.

The co-op mode is rather a separate mode named Guerrilla, not a campaign like how retailers described it.This situation comes from outdated materials that were used to promote the game earlier. There is no word if Ubisoft will give players refunds if they were misinformed, but they have said that have discussed the mix up in the following statement:

“We’ve been made aware of the presence of outdated information on UbiShop and several retailer sites stating split screen, cooperative play is available in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s campaign,” Ubisoft forum manager EvilPixieGrr said in an update on the publisher’s forums. “We have ensured the information has been updated on the sites affected by this.”

Anonymous Threatens Black Ops 2

Hey there everyone, Atzunew here with some more news on the gaming community. Recently, a member of the hacker group which refers to itself as Anonymous has come out and said that they will target the upcoming game, Black Ops 2 - to  be published by Activision. Below is their video that discusses their views on the subject. For now I'll sit back with my popcorn and see how this plays out for now.

AnythingGeek Is Expanding, What Is Our Future?

You may have noticed some changes on the site in the past little while. In the latest podcast, episode 10 we introduced the newest contributor to AnythingGeek.net, Peter Salmon. Peter is responsible for Television/Movie/Anime news and reviews. He will also be creating some of our first video content for the site. Many of Peter's articles can be found here, but look out for some videos coming soon.

The real first video for our site though, was created for my Guild Wars 2 review, which you can check out here. Another thing we mentioned on the podcast was that we were going to take a hiatus from the podcast itself due to the amount of time it takes to edit. Instead of the podcast we chose to focus on our video content. We hope to have several videos weekly of new content on a schedule. We will announce the official schedule once we know that we can keep up with it, but for now now keep an eye out for lots of new video series starting within the next couple weeks. I hope you readers continue to read AnythingGeek.net and maybe watch our videos too. Until next time, enjoy your stay and love your life!

Reviews for the Road: Guild Wars 2 Beta

I have been a fan of Guild Wars for quite some time, and have played through all 4 campaigns with multiple characters. Because of that, it may not come as a surprise that I am very excited for the release of Guild Wars 2. When I had the opportunity to pre-order the game to get access to all future beta weekends, I immediately jumped at the chance. Guild Wars 2 is very different from almost every other MMORPG I've ever played, so this review will try to explain just how different it is.

To begin creating a character you can choose from 5 different races: Asura, Charr, Human, Norn, and Sylvari. Next, choose male or female. Then you can choose your profession: from Guardian, Warrior, Engineer, Ranger, Thief, Elementalist, Mesmer, or Necromancer. After customizing your character's looks you will answer 5 questions that describe your character and will customize your personal story. Finally, enter your name and watch the opening cinematic. Then you will be right away thrust into the middle of a battle to start your personal story!

Guild Wars 2 does not have "quests" like a traditional MMO and instead has "tasks" (also called Renown Hearts). Right now there are 232 tasks in the game. Tasks are automatically acquired upon entering an area, but you can also talk to the related NPCs for more information or to turn in certain items. Many of the tasks are old-fashioned, kill/gather quests, but they still seem to keep me more entertained than quests that start with walls of text. In the case of Guild Wars 2 you quickly figure out the problem and work to solve it.

Aside from the quests, around the massive world of Tyria there are 183 skill challenges, 781 points of interest, and tons of dynamic events. Skill challenges are achieved several ways: visiting special locations guarded by monsters, dueling strong NPCs, fighting a horde of specific monsters, finding a special item, or receiving these items from NPCs. Skill points can be used to buy a vast amount of skills, each at different prices in points. These challenges will all help you in exploring the world, and while doing so you will come across many dynamic events. These range from defending an outpost from enemies (usually centaurs), to guarding an important person as they travel from place to place. These events were created to increase co-operation among players - and they do. During almost every event a group of players will be gathered to work together.

Other features of the game include dungeons, crafting and gathering, and PvP. So far I have not been able to experience dungeons during the beta. They are said to be instances each with their own specific story. There will be 8 dungeons at launch, and will be available starting at level 30. Players can have two crafting professions at a time, but can change for a fee whenever they like. Some of these include chefs, weaponsmiths, and jewelers. Gathering involves the collecting of ores, logging wood, or harvesting plants as a means of getting materials for those professions. The combat is also unique, but not as much so as previously reviewed TERA. You attack, like most MMOs, with number keys or by clicking on skills. But as with TERA there is also a dodging mechanic used by double-tapping the arrow keys. This may not be used at first but can be useful dodging some attacks. As for PvP, it is not something that interests me very much, but from people I know who are playing they greatly enjoy the new World vs. World mode.

Overall my experince in Guild Wars 2 so far has been amazing. I have already put in too many hours to count (I know, /age works too), and have barely left the first area of the game. A major part of the game is the personal story, and with my level 15 character I have hardly scratched the surface. What I do know is that the stories are greatly based off your choices creating your character but will become intertwined later on. My previous experience playing on the first beta weekend and the first stress test, have always left me wanting more. I've currently completed more than 17/232 tasks, 6/183 skill challenges, and visited 29/781 points of interest - and the developers will surely add more content as time passes.

I give this game an 85/100. It is truly unique, more than any other MMO I have ever seen or played. While it's combat may not be as action-oriented as TERA, it does practically re-invent MMORPGs with its completely different presentations of quests, managing skills, and a great over-arching story. I could only hope that somehow the beginning parts of the story could be a bit more exciting, but that may only be specific to my choice of a human warrior along with the answers of my biography questions at the start. Still, I totally recommend checking this game out as it is probably the best MMORPG around. If you want to play as soon as possible you can pre-purchase the game now to be able to play in all upcoming beta weekend events, just follow them on twitter for all the latest news!

The Springtime Anime Spotlight: Folktales from Japan

With a new episode of Folktales from Japan having aired last night, I thought what better way to start my new Spring Anime Spotlights than with this interesting series.
Brief Summary
Unlike most Anime series - or any series for that matter - instead of having a story that continues on every episode with a constant cast, each episode of Folktales from Japan revolves around three short vignettes that follow the story of an old Japanese folk tale. For example, in the most recent episode there's a story about a monk who saves a village from an angry god, a story about a lazy boy who travels from his village, to heaven, and eventually back again, and a story about a lazy man who after going for a walk meets two other lazy people (riveting I know).

Pros
The main pro of this series, in my opinion, would definitely be the animation. This is because unlike other animes who try to have a pseudo-real animation, Folktales from Japan, takes a complete 180 and tries to be as cartoon-like as possible. Although this story book style wouldn't work for all animes, for a series that is trying to re-imagine folk tales told to children, it is perfect. The fact that there is no consistent plot can also be seen as a pro in the sense that one does not need to fret about having seen every previous episode when a new one comes out, you simply turn on the television (or computer screen if you don't live in Japan) and watch.

Cons
Just as its lack of continuity can be seen as beneficial, it can also be seen as a detraction. This is because since there's no recurring characters or story, there is no reason to come back every week. Sure you might want to check in every once in a while, but there's nothing that makes you feel like you have to. Another con, and perhaps the most off-putting would be the lack of interesting story. By this I mean that even though there are three stories per episode, not all of them are going to be interesting. For example, the folk tale I described earlier about a lazy man going for a walk is literally just that, a lazy man going for a walk. There is not even a lesson or morale at the end.

Bottom Line
The bottom line for this series is: if you're someone looking for a good action, romance, or comedy series then try some of the other new springtime series, but if your interested in Japanese history then this could be a fun way to learn a bit more!

Minecraft Snapshot 12w21a Released

Hey there fans, Atzunew here with another update on everyone's favorite cuboid game - Minecraft Yesterday we discussed some of Mojang's plans in regards to updating their popular game and today is the day. They have released snapshot 12w21a which is packed with great content.  Below is a list of changes from Mojang themselves.
  • Villagers will trade items (they are cheap bastards, though!)
  • Added a “currency item”
  • A few minor terrain changes
  • A new useful block/item (requires obsidian)
  • Added a /seed command for showing the map seed
  • Added sandstone stairs
  • A lot of smaller changes and fixes
There are some really nice new features in this small update. The "End Chests" was the one item that was included from a suggestion on Reddit I presume, and currency will give new meaning to the gameplay in ways only Bukkit plugins could achieve before.

The emerald ore however is discolored, since it is supposed to be green like regular emeralds. Jeb has said via tweet that this is true: "The ore is supposed to be green, not red. Apparently I didn't commit the file". Below are some pictures of these new additions.

Meloetta's Anime Appearance & The Return of Dawn?

Today we have got wind of the titles of the upcoming anime episodes in the new Best Wishes season. Both these episodes have been revealed from a Japanese magazine source and will feature the Pokémon Meloetta. They are titled Sing, Meloetta! The Melody of Love!! and Piplup VS Pansage, the Magnificent Battle!!.  These episodes are to air on the 21st and 28th of June respectively in Japan. I believe that the Piplup episode will have the rumoured return of Dawn,  a fan favourite character.

Mass Effect 3: N7 Operation Shieldwall Begins this Weekend

Hey there folks, Atzunew here with some news on the upcoming Mass Effect 3 multiplayer promotion Shieldwall. Last week we failed to earn the global goal of 3,000,000 Banshees but we should persevere and look forward to these upcoming challenges.  BioWare's continued support of the multiplayer is definitely nice to see, and every second week we are getting new, exciting challenges.

This operation has two challenges as always, a global challenge and a squad goal. Also, there is a special circumstance since we failed to complete the last global challenge. This week's global goal is to promote 50,000 characters and the squad goal is to <promote?> 3. The new special circumstance is where Banshees will apparently spawn more frequently in reaper rounds and will even spawn in other enemies' rounds.  This is BioWare's way of saying "Where is your God now?".

You will get the standard rewards for each with an increased amount of rare items within the packs as well. This promotion will go on from Friday, May 25 at 6:00PM PT until Sunday, May 27 at 5:00PM PT. I hope to see you all on so we don't fail this operation like we did last week!

Jeb Teases New Block for Minecraft, Coming Thursday

Recently Jeb from Mojang released the following statement which seems to point to an upcoming update of Minecraft. Obviously this message is quite vague so we don't know for certain what this may mean. Right now I would recommend sifting through the 7 month old content and comments on /r/minecraft on Reddit.
He has given us a time to expect this new block so for now we will have to wait until tomorrow. Is it the coin block people are speculating about, wooden items in-line with the newly coloured wood, or something new?  In other Minecraft news, but still related, Mojang has seemed to been fiddling with the stars in the overworld night sky. He said that he changed their properties but will they create constellations? Return to AnythingGeek.net for the latest on this developing story.

Lego Batman 2 Open World Gameplay Trailer

The latest trailer for Lego Batman 2 was released just a few days ago and let's just say that it looks awesome. There is a huge open world in this game which hasn't been done in another Lego game, debate me Harry Potter fans. This trailer features more villains like joker of course but it also shows more superheros: Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash who must be playable characters in the game. the Lego Batman 2 is set to launch sometime 2012. It will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS and PC DVD, no word if this will also include Steam.

Anchorman 2: Second Trailer Released

If you're like me and love anything Will Ferrell, then you'll be happy to know their is now a second teaser trailer for the upcoming movie Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Like the original and pretty much every hilarious Will Ferrell film, i.e. Step BrothersTalladega Nights, The Other Guys, Anchorman 2 is being directed by Adam Mckay. Check out the new trailer below.
The film is also being produced by comedic genius Judd Apatow known for directing Super Bad and Knocked Up. Although there is no official release date, the film is expected to hit theatres in 2013. If you want to see more you can also check out the first trailer here.

6 Million 3DS units Sold in Japan

Well the failure system the 3DS is doing better then what people thought when it first came out. It so far has sold 6 million in Japan and globally it has sold over 13.35 million units. Since the 3DS launched it has brought in 17.1 million sales. Currently though Nintendo is not making a profit on 3DS's sold, not until the end of September of 2012 they say. For more Nintendo and other news check back to AnythingGeek.net!

New Teaser for Skyfall

If your one of those James Bond fanatics then you should definitely check out the new teaser for the latest film in the series, Skyfall. For those of you unaware Skyfall premeires in London on October 26th. It will be the 23rd installment and just like the last two will star Daniel Craig as the lead. Unlike the last two installments this will feature Javier Bardem as the antagonist, which as we've seen in films like No Country for Old Men he does well.

Sunday's Game of Thrones and what's on the Horizon

First and foremost I felt like Sunday's episode of HBOs Game of Thrones The Prince of Winterfell was, like the previous episode A Man Without Honor, a filler episode thats main purpose was to build up towards next weeks penultimate Blackwater. This is because although there were many interesting things that occurred, the whole episode felt like it was just preparing for the next episode wherein Stannis and his army will finally reach Kings Landing, resulting in a battle between Joffrey's men and Stannis' See the video below for a preview of this battle:

Like the Season 1 episode The Pointy End, Blackwater is written by A Song of Fire and Ice author George R.R. Martin (the series of books Game of Thrones is based on) , meaning its sure to be a good one that captures the essence of the book perfectly. All of that being said there were many interesting things that occurred in last nights episode. Firstly there was a great deal of development between Theon Greyjoy and his sister Yara, who gives us some insight into the relationship she and Theon had prior to the Starks capture of Theon. The episode also deals with Theon's troubles trying to control Winterfell. The budding romantic relationships of Tyrion Lannister and Shae, as well as of Robb Stark and Lady Tarisa are also developed further when both couples declare their love for each other in verbal ways as well as physical.

Arya's troubles at Harenhaal are also developed further when, using her last request of Jaqen, she is able to escape with Gendry and Hot Pie, which they're also able to do since Tywin is riding off to fight Robb. Not only is this development great because Arya has escaped, but also because it means that in future episodes there will be more insight on the character Gendry, who I love because he's portrayed by  actor Joe Dempsie, who is most well known for portraying Chris on Skins, one of my personal favorite shows. Other notable but somewhat minor events include; Jon Snow being taken to the Wildling commander the Lord of the Bones where he is told of Mance Rayder's plan to storm the wall, Sam and Gren finding a buried Nights Watch cloak containing a horn and Dragon glass, and thankfully, it being revealed that both Rickon and Bran are still alive. So all in all, although mostly a filler or build up episode in preparation for next week's Blackwater, The Prince of Winterfell, like all episodes of Game of Thrones didn't fail to impress me, with its greater focus on the development of character relationships, and Arya's situation.God Damn is Arya bad ass.
