VLC Media Player Hits 1 Billion Downloads

VLC, one of the most popular programs for playing audio and video has hit 1 billion downloads. VLC is known for being able to play almost every media file type and for being extremely lightweight.

1 Billion Downloads!
VLC started in 2001 and the software ticker for how many downloads started in 2005, and this doesn't count downloads done on Linux, so the actual amount of downloads is even higher than shown. I for one am a proud user of VLC, same as the other writers of AnythingGeek. VideoLAN, the makers of VLC put this on there website:

We don't show Linux download statistics as most downloads for this OS are made through distributions.
