How Raspberry Pi's Distributors Failed

At 1:00 AM eastern time, Raspberry Pi updated their website offering information on how to purchase their highly anticipated, low-cost mini computer. To be able to sell in greater numbers the Raspberry Pi foundation has partnered with two UK sites -  RS Components and Premier Farnell.
The involvement of RS Components and Premier Farnell means that we can build volume much, much faster than would have been possible on our own. We are no longer limited to batches of only 10k Raspberry Pis; the Raspberry Pi will now be being built to match demand.
Even though both of the sites were warned that this launch would generate an immense amount of traffic - both of them crashed immediately. Even worse, for those of us in North American there seems to no mention of how we can purchase it. When users were able to reach the site they were only shown a page where you could sign up to "show their interest in buying the product. Obviously, these sites were not ready to begin selling the product -  hardware-wise or website-wise. As I tweeted:

In slightly happier news, the Raspberry Pi main website managed to stay up by switching to a static page (as seen in the screenshot up top). They also announced that the cheaper Model A - to be released at a later time - will have double the RAM as initially thought, from 128MB of RAM to 256MB.

Update: From @Grumpyoldgit99 on Twitter: "Spoken to RS sales team. Not on sale until end of week."

Raspberry Pi Announcement Coming Soon

"Ladies and gentlemen, set your alarms!", says Eben Upton - founder and trustee of the Raspberry Pi foundation.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation will be making a big (and very positive) announcement that just might interest you at 0600h GMT on Wednesday 29 February 2012. Come to www.raspberrypi.org to find out what’s going on.
While this announcement is widely assumed to be the launch of this device, the Raspberry Pi Twitter account tries to keep it as cryptic as possible:

I for one will be up at 1:00 AM Eastern time for the announcement. Those who can't will be happy to hear that according to the Twitter account, they will be limited to one device per person. While that may not sound to great for the people who wanted one for every room in their house, it is sure to get this device out to even more people.

What is this Raspberry Pi you're talking about?
Raspberry Pi is is a single-board computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The foundation plans to release two versions, priced at USD $25 and $35. The $35 model will be shipping first. The Raspberry Pi is intended to stimulate the teaching of basic computer science in schools.

The Raspberry Pi can be used in multiple situations ranging from running a full Linux-based desktop operating system to being used as a home theater PC with XBMC. Stay tuned to this site and out Twitter for tutorials as this software comes out.

New Battlefield 3 DLC in the Works

Hey there folks, Atzunew here with some news for you Battlefield 3 fans. Recently DICE and EA have confirmed that they are working on a new DLC pack for their popular FPS. They described it as still being in the testing phase of development.

The developers have not yet released details about it and are still keeping it under wraps. What I believe players can expect is new maps, weapons and vehicles to enhance their multiplayer experience.

On Twitter a concerned fan asked about how the new DLC was coming along and what it would entail. DICE replied, "We haven't announce our DLC plans just yet but we are playtesting some impressive things in the studio." By the looks of things there may be some cool new features to accompany the expected new content.

In other related news, the Battlefield 3 patch that was slated for sometime February was obviously pushed back. While no official date has been set it seems that a March release would be favorableThe current list of patch fixes can be found here, note that this is not the final complete list of fixes and tweaks to the game.

That is all for now folks. What do you believe this new update will hold for Battlefield 3?

The Latest In Warhammer 40k Literature

Hey there folks, Atzunew here with some news on this weekend's Black Library releases. As with almost all Warhammer 40k literature, the authors use this great company to publish their work. This weekend marks the release of a number of books that are highly anticipated from readers.  Here is a small video about the upcoming book Legion of the Damned by Rob Sanders.
The parent company - Games Workshop are great for the expansive universe that they have created nearly 25 years prior. Also on the slate of this weekend are Gotrek and Felix: The Anthology, Phalanx as well as both A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns in audiobook format.

Gotrek and Felix: The Anthology  is a compilation of all of the current books in the series. Written by a number of authors this book will have an ever changing style, but will keep true to both the Warhammer setting and the character's development.

The sixth book in the Soul Drinkers series Phalanx promises to deliver further insight to the chapter's motives as well as keep up the steady development of characters. This book will cover the Chapter's encounter with the Imperial Fists. One can only guess at what this book will uncover about the history of Chapter and their motives.
Lastly a release of A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns in unabridged audio complement each other nicely. Both take place during the Horus Heresy which is a time of legend for the galaxy. We now see the further corruption of the traitor legions and a look at the Space Wolves Chapter in ways not formally addressed.

That is all for know folks, but you know that more great content is on its way. Until next time -  enjoy your stay and love your life!

Team Meat Disses 40MB WiiWare Limit

Team meat has stated in an interview in Nintendo Gamer magazine issue #72, that Super Meat Boy would have came out on the Wii if the file size limit wasn't just 40MB.
[WiiWare's] 40MB is horrible, but [3DS's] 2GB is reasonable. Super Meat Boy would have been on WiiWare if we could have had just a few more megabytes of space – you can only compress stuff so much before you have to start cutting out huge parts of your game. Unfortunately, at that point, it just isn’t worth the time.
Personally I think that the 40MB size is a joke of a size, and with the 2GB limit it will really get the ball rolling for development of some good games for the 3DS eShop. Also, people will have to start buying a new SD card because the one that came with the 3DS is only 2GB. They also state that they would like their future games to be on the Wii U. However, there are rumors that even the Wii U is to only have 8GB of internal storage - so you better get out a spare SD card then too.

Two New Pokemon Games Announced

As previously reported, today is the date of the announcement of a new Pokemon game - or in this case two. During the weekly Pokemon Smash television show on TV Tokyo, Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 were shown. Pokemon director Junichi Masuda also tweeted during the show:
Everyone, thank you "Pokemon Black 2 White 2"! ! ! Like official Pokemon site has been updated as well now! ! Even legendary Pokemon to appear! Please Check it out! ! ! ! http://www.pokemon.co.jp/ex/b2w2/
The new games are expected to focus on Kyurem, including 2 new forms (much like what was introduced in Pokemon Platinum). These forms are also expected to be seen in the next Pokemon Movie.

According to the United States Pokemon website the games will be made for the Nintendo DS line of systems, not the 3DS. Of course, they will be playable in 2D on your overpowered handheld.

Details on whether or not the story will be very similar to the original Black/White, or if these games are true sequels is unknown. There are even reports that these games are second in a trilogy of the Black & White "series". These two games are set to launch June 2012 in Japan.

The Indie Royale Alpha Collection #1

The next Indie Royale Bundle has been released, and this time it will be to support the developers of three games that are still in development: Towns, 3079, and Wyv and Keep.

Towns
SMP
Towns, a city building and management game mixed with an RPG that draws inspiration from titles spanning Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress and Majesty. Instead of playing the hero who delves deep into the dungeon, players oversee the town that houses and caters the hero's needs.

Along the way, players can craft unique weapons, obtain randomized loot and build a settlement capable of holding back the forces that rise up from the active dungeon upon which the town sits.
The game is said to be 40.2% complete and the developer has stated you will receive every new release up to when the game comes out you can purchase it. New releases are planned every 1-2 months.

3079
Phr00t
3079 is a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game, and an alleged lovechild of Minecraft and Fallout, with a block-like world, futuristic action, and role-playing elements played in a first-person perspective. 3079's randomly generated areas, buildings, items, quests and characters make it an entertaining open-world experience.

You are sent to a world that is under constant war, and it is your job to find out the cause of this war and hopefully bring peace. You can work with either the Humoids or Neanders to help achieve this goal. Be warned, there is more to fear than just the warring factions on this planet...
3079 is about 65% complete, with updates planned every 2 months.

Wyv and Keep
A Jolly Corpse
Wyv and Keep: the Temple of the Lost Idol is a lusciously pixelated 2D co-op puzzle platformer. Dubbed as a more fiendish version of Blizzard's classic The Lost Vikings, the game features two young treasure hunters venturing into the land of Amazonia.

Take control of the duo and use teamwork to solve mind-bending puzzles, navigate challenging action sequences, and find hidden riches deep within an ancient temple.
Wyv and Keep is 75% complete with updates planned every month! This game includes local and online multiplayer modes as well as a puzzle creator.

These alpha games are currently priced at $5.34 and will be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux by the time they release. The offer expires in less than 5 days, so buy it now!

BioWare Unboxes Mass Effect 3

Hey everyone, Atzunew here with some content directly from the horse's mouth. Yesterday BioWare officially "unboxed" one of their copies of Mass Effect 3 that is about to be launched into space. Check out the video below:
I'm very happy with how they have done this video. Also, including the covers for both male and female Shepards is very cool. I just can't wait for March 6th to come, I feel like a kid at the holidays. Are you excited for Mass Effect 3? Leave a comment below and follow use on Twitter for more news on this and more.

A Montage Like No Other! - Battlefield 3

Hey there everyone, you probably think that if you've seen one montage you have seen them all. I just found this great video and all I can say is: prepare to be proven wrong.
Pretty awesome right.  Instead of the regular low quality, dub-step filled clips this video shows some really great techniques on how to successfully make a video look great. The content of hardcore Battlefield 3 gameplay is quite fun to watch with all the overlays and effects. The only small gripe I have is sometimes there are points were there seems to be a bit to much special effects, but these sections are few and far between. I for one hope that iDuel2010 keeps up the great work!

Mass Effect 3 to have First Day DLC

Hey there folks it seems that Bioware and EA have decided to release some day one DLC for Mass Effect 3 when it releases.  This news comes from a leak in Xbox live where the item was available for a few moments. This pack will be titled 'From Ashes' and the small amount of information also contained a short description on what the pack entailed.
Unearth lost secrets from the past and recruit the Prothean squad member in Mass Effect 3: From Ashes.
This pack is estimated to be 800 Microsoft points or about $9.99 though Origin or PSN.  This pack has also been confirmed by Bioware employee Michael Gamble.
We're happy to confirm that Mass Effect 3: From Ashes DLC will be available at launch for all platforms. For those of you who have purchased the N7 Collector's Edition (including the PC Digital Deluxe Edition), you will get this content at no extra charge. We'll have a lot more details for you later this week! Stay Tuned!
As a fan of the Mass Effect series and of Bioware's other titles this comes as something I am not too fond of. Around the web I see others complaining and voicing their opinions that they dislike this DLC for what seems like a few reasons.  Firstly they dislike the fact that it is first day DLC, next they are saying that such an integral part of the series (Meeting a Prothean) should not be relegated to a DLC since it should be in the full game.

What I dislike about this one argument is that the game has not even released yet, so we are not sure if Bioware has already integrated this character. Maybe instead of the bountiful wealth of knowledge well seem to think this character has, s/he/it may have very little knowledge of their own culture and what happened when their civilization was taken out.

My personal gripe with this content is that it brought the race back, I personally liked the protheans for their mystic and the sense of unknown in their story line. With the pack it may ruin that feeling about this race. I will still get this pack regardless since I'm pumped for this game!

In the Land of Blocks: Issue 2

Hey everyone out there. Welcome to the second installment of In the Land of Blocks hosted on AnythingGeek.net. This column if your not familiar is where I will talk about my adventures in Minecraft where you can follow my progress. If you missed In the Land of Blocks: Issue 1 you can find that here.

You all may notice the change in scenery, this is because I was pseudo-evicted. By this I mean there was a large influx of mobs such that they have taken over. I imagine there is now a creeper living in my old abode, doing what creepers do best. I have also needed to take away my Millionaire mod since it was starting to reject the others until I was unable to even log on.

Above you can see that I'm starting  both a wheat farm and a pig farm. I firstly made the wheat farm to start off with farming while I collected more resources. The pig farm came from my need for a large amount of food to keep me from starving while mining deep down. While I have no screens so far I also have a couple of small underground bases where I keep supplies like pork chops and ores so I don't lose everything on the off chance I die.

Here you can see some other labours of mine, working out my small chunk into the landscape and carving my path to destiny.  I have made a small tree orchard where I will grow some trees that will be used for raw materials.  With my time spent gathering resources I gathered some clay and replaced the walls of my home with brick to make it look better.

I hope you enjoyed this installment of In the Land of Blocks. If you have any recommendations for mods, buildings to create, or anything else, please leave a comment below. Follow this blog for more great content on a number subjects. If there are any other games that you would like to follow our adventures, send us an email on the contact page.

Why You Should Love Windows 8

Ever since Microsoft first showed Windows 8 with its 'Metro' style interface, press have been saying that it will 'not work' on desktop computers. Users say they are being 'forced' to use Metro, but even as someone who loves this new style, I can honestly say that is not really the case.
Including Metro on Windows 8 gives hardware manufacturers much more flexibility in making new devices. Other than touchscreen laptops (which makes my arm tired just thinking about it), there is of course Tablets. Being on a tablet does not mean that Windows 8 will not work well with the mouse and keyboard - it does. In the Developer Preview there are small issues related to scrolling in apps that have since been fixed. What being able to use a mouse and keyboard does is allow manufacturers to make incredible products such as the Asus Transformer does today with Android. Using a tablet the user can input mouse and keyboard in the metro interface as well as the traditional desktop with the click of a tile.

But wait. 'There's no desktop on ARM?!' - Yes there is. On ARM you will be able to to use the included Microsoft Office version that while it is a desktop app, it will be tablet optimized. However this should not be a problem as if you are creating text documents you will likely be using some sort of keyboard dock. 'Why can't you use other desktop apps on ARM?' - at launch ARM is intended for low power, mobile devices. You will only be able to use programs such as explorer and desktop IE. The Windows 8 app store is sure to have any software you will need as Microsoft still has the highest market share in operating systems. Running software on ARM that you normally run on Windows x86/x64 would require an entire rewrite.

Microsoft has solved this problem by updating it's extremely intuitive development environment with Visual Studio 11. Apps written for Metro using any of the multiple languages supported (C++, C#, Visual Basic, Javascript) will work cross-platform on Windows 8 on Intel and ARM, as well as Windows Phone. We will have to wait until the Consumer Preview on  February 29th to see just what kind of apps will be available on the store and how well they work.

'So, Windows 8 has a shiny "shell" over top of it, what really makes it better?'. Windows 8 is fast, really fast. I have to say that Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 are the smoothest operating systems I have ever seen. They never slow down, they are beautiful, and very easy to use for anyone. Windows 8 can run smoothly even on Netbooks, and will actually only require the same or less RAM than Windows 7. Windows 8 also uses 'Hybrid Boot" technology. Even running on a very old Pentium 4 computer Windows 8 boots in 5-7 seconds, but you will likely never have to turn it off as it suspends any apps you are not currently using in the background to save resources.

'Windows 8 doesn't have multitasking.' What? Are you crazy? Of course Windows 8 has multitasking. You can view multiple Metro apps side by side, and even Metro apps aside the desktop. You can also adjust the size of the two windows as you wish (for instance if you wanted to keep a Twitter client on the side of the screen while you worked). Windows 8 will actually be the first mobile OS to allow real multi-tasking. This is now only just beginning to happen on Android with the amazing Cornerstone software.

Now before this posts rivals the length of that of Steven Sinofsky I would like to mention a new feature that has been recently announced. Microsoft will be integrating SkyDrive into the OS as a folder in your user directory - much like Dropbox. Users will be able to backup files directly to their SkyDrive folder. There is some disappointment with this feature however, that users will not be able to individually pick folders to be synced (as with Windows Live Mesh), but is essentially just a type of Dropbox clone. That is not too bad though, as it is now built in and offers more space than Dropbox.

Remember, the new Metro interface is called the 'start screen' for a reason. It is replacing the start menu, not your entire desktop. You can still search for programs at any time on the start screen just by typing, you can also search for files and settings. There is nothing stopping you from using the old desktop with all of its updated features (eg. ribbon bar), and at this time without the app store being opened the metro interface is best used as a secondary display. I am sure that this will change when some useful apps or fun games are released. Desktop OSes are becoming more and more like their mobile counterparts, as Apple is doing the same with OS X Mountain Lion.

New Pokemon Game to be Announced Next Week?

In a recent Q&A with his fans - the director of the Pokemon Black and White games has hinted that the release of the third in the trio may be coming soon. The interview with Junichi Masuda - which can be watched at the end of this article (in Japanese) -  has him being asked when the third game of this Pokemon generation will be released. Here is his response at about 4:30 in the video:
Well, there's no reason to expect me to know that [about a third version], [crowd laughs] but I can't answer. But...but... I wonder if it's alright to say this....watch Pokemon Smash...if you want details.
Pokemon Smash is a Japanese, weekly, hour-long Pokemon variety show that airs on Sundays from 7:30AM-8:30AM on TV Tokyo. An episode typically involves the playing of a classic Pokemon episode or movie as well as announcing new information about the Pokemon franchise.

Junichi Musada reiterated on his Twitter account for Pokemon fans to watch Pokemon Smash or to follow his feed during the show. While not much us known about this Pokemon "Grey" or whatever it is to be called, it will likely add some new features to the game as previously done with Pokemon Platinum - adding new Wi-Fi features, the Battle Frontier (as with Pokemon Emerald), new Pokemon forms, and others.

And this movie's cute pokemon is... Keldeo!
The new Pokemon game is rumored to focus on the upcoming star the the next Pokemon movie being released in Japan July 14, 2012 - Keldeo, and will likely be the Pokemon featured on the cover art. Either this or Kyurem. It is unknown whether the next game will be a direct remake for the 3DS's screen or if Nintendo will add specific 3D features. In this writer's opinion the latter is likely to be true.

Civilization V: Gods & Kings Expansion Announced

Hey there everyone, Atzunew here with some news on the upcoming Civilization 5 expansion pack. This is unlike the past DLC as it will incorporate new features as well as content.

As all Civ' veterans should know, these expansion packs are not your run of the mill extra content. With this pack buyers will receive 27 new units, 13 buildings, 9 wonders, 9 new civilizations to play as and an all new religion system. Three have been already been announced and they are the Netherlands (William 1, Prince of Orange), Celts (Boudicca) and the Mayans (Pacal the Great).

The men and women at 2K Games have been working hard to bring this all new pack to audiences everywhere, and from what this fan can see they will not disappointed. Players can choose established religions and even found their own while attempting to spread it across the world. They have restructured the city-state system to both bring in the religion system and also to refine their "quest" system. Lastly they have changed up the dynamics of combat and even have added espionage for those scrupulosity players.

That is it for now folks.  The one thing that I would like to add to this article is that I hope that they fix the multiplayer system so it does not make it unplayable, like it seems to be now sadly.  2K Games seem to be making this into something that players will be happy with. Civilization V: Gods & Kings is estimated to release this spring  for around $30.

Pokemon Movie 15 - Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman: Keldeo

Hey there fans, Atzunew here with some news about the next Pokémon movie. With a wealth of quality videos, the 15th movie adds to a long line of successes. Each and every film has been used to feature legendary Pokémon as well as help introduce new ones to the series.

With the release of the latest CoroCoro magazine we now have a deeper understanding about some details about the movie. The English title was previously unknown, but since this release we now know it to be Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman: Keldeo. There was also a rumor that Keldeo was not to star in this film since he is not seen as an "official" member of the Musketeers - the title proves this rumor wrong. No plot is know yet but pictures seem to portray Kyurem as the antagonist with the Musketeers and Keldeo opposing it.

Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman: Keldeo will premiere on July 2012 in Japan. A North American and European date have not been announced but it is my belief that they will come out mid-2013 or early 2014. Till next time everyone, enjoy your stay and love your life.
